1And this is the history of Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth.Now sons began to be born to them after the deluge.

8And Cush became father to Nimrod. He made the start in becoming a mighty one in the earth.
9He displayed himself a mighty hunter in opposition to Jehovah. That is why there is a saying: “Just like Nimrod a mighty hunter in opposition to Jehovah.”
10And the beginning of his kingdom came to be Babel and Erech and Accad and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

8Cush was the father of Nimrod, who became a mighty warrior on the earth.
9He was a mighty hunter before the LORD; that is why it is said, “Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the LORD.”
10The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Uruk, Akkad and Kalneh, in Shinar.

8Y Cus llegó a ser padre de Nemrod. Él dio comienzo a lo de hacerse un poderoso en la tierra.
9Se exhibió [como un] poderoso cazador en oposición a Jehová. Por eso hay un dicho: “Como Nemrod, poderoso cazador en oposición a Jehová”.

1Now all the earth continued to be of one language and of one set of words.
2And it came about that in their journeying eastward they eventually discovered a valley plain in the land of Shinar, and they took up dwelling there.
3And they began to say, each one to the other: “Come on! Let us make bricks and bake them with a burning process.” So brick served as stone for them, but bitumen served as mortar for them.
4They now said: “Come on! Let us build ourselves a city and also a tower with its top in the heavens, and let us make a celebrated name for ourselves, for fear we may be scattered over all the surface of the earth.”
5And Jehovah proceeded to go down to see the city and the tower that the sons of men had built.
6After that Jehovah said: “Look! They are one people and there is one language for them all, and this is what they start to do. Why, now there is nothing that they may have in mind to do that will be unattainable for them.
7Come now! Let us go down and there confuse their language that they may not listen to one another’s language.”
8Accordingly Jehovah scattered them from there over all the surface of the earth, and they gradually left off building the city.
9That is why its name was called Babel, because there Jehovah had confused the language of all the earth, and Jehovah had scattered them from there over all the surface of the earth.

1Now the whole world had one language and a common speech.
2As people moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there.
3They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar.
4Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
5But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower the people were building.
6The LORD said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.
7Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.”
8So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.
9That is why it was called Babel—because there the LORD confused the language of the whole world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

1Ahora bien, toda la tierra continuaba siendo de un solo lenguaje y de un solo conjunto de palabras.
2Y aconteció que, al ir viajando hacia el este, finalmente descubrieron una llanura-valle en la tierra de Sinar, y se pusieron a morar allí.
3Y empezaron a decirse, cada uno al otro: “¡Vamos! Hagamos ladrillos y cozámoslos con un procedimiento de quema”. De modo que el ladrillo les sirvió de piedra, pero el betún les sirvió de argamasa.
4Entonces dijeron: “¡Vamos! Edifiquémonos una ciudad y también una torre con su cúspide en los cielos, y hagámonos un nombre célebre, por temor de que seamos esparcidos por toda la superficie de la tierra”.
5Y Jehová procedió a bajar para ver la ciudad y la torre que los hijos de los hombres habían edificado.
6A continuación dijo Jehová: “¡Mira! Son un solo pueblo y hay un solo lenguaje para todos ellos, y esto es lo que comienzan a hacer. Pues, ahora no hay nada que tengan pensado hacer que no les sea posible lograr.
7¡Vamos! Bajemos y confundamos allí su lenguaje para que no escuche el uno el lenguaje del otro”.
8Por consiguiente, Jehová los esparció desde allí sobre toda la superficie de la tierra, y poco a poco dejaron de edificar la ciudad.
9Por eso se le dio el nombre de Babel, porque allí había confundido Jehová el lenguaje de toda la tierra, y de allí los había esparcido Jehová sobre toda la superficie de la tierra.
