¹³This is why I speak to them by the use of illustrations, because, looking, they look in vain, and hearing, they hear in vain, neither do they get the sense of it;

¹³This is why I speak to them in parables:

¹³Por esto les hablo a ellos usando ilustraciones, porque, mirando, miran en vano, y oyendo, oyen en vano, ni captan el sentido de ello;

(34-35) ³⁴All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds by illustrations. Indeed, without an illustration he would not speak to them; ³⁵that there might be fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet who said: “I will open my mouth with illustrations, I will publish things hidden since the founding.”

(34-35) ³⁴Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. ³⁵So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet:

(34-35) ³⁴Todas estas cosas habló Jesús a las muchedumbres por ilustraciones. En verdad, sin ilustración no les hablaba; ³⁵para que se cumpliera lo que se habló por medio del profeta que dijo: “Abriré mi boca con ilustraciones, publicaré cosas escondidas desde la fundación”.

¹Jesus then began to speak to them in parables: “A man planted a vineyard. He put a wall around it, dug a pit for the winepress and built a watchtower. Then he rented the vineyard to some farmers and moved to another place.

¹²Then the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders looked for a way to arrest him because they knew he had spoken the parable against them. But they were afraid of the crowd; so they left him and went away.
