^     Matthew 20 Matthew 20 Mateo 20
(1-16) 1“For the kingdom of the heavens is like a man, a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2When he had agreed with the workers for a denarius a day, he sent them forth into his vineyard. 3Going out also about the third hour, he saw others standing unemployed in the marketplace; 4and to those he said, ‘YOU also, go into the vineyard, and whatever is just I will give YOU.’ 5So off they went. Again he went out about the sixth and the ninth hour and did likewise. 6Finally, about the eleventh hour he went out and found others standing, and he said to them, ‘Why have YOU been standing here all day unemployed?’ 7They said to him, ‘Because nobody has hired us.’ He said to them, ‘YOU too go into the vineyard.’

8“When it became evening, the master of the vineyard said to his man in charge, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, proceeding from the last to the first.’ 9When the eleventh-hour men came, they each received a denarius. 10So, when the first came, they concluded they would receive more; but they also received pay at the rate of a denarius. 11On receiving it they began to murmur against the householder 12and said, ‘These last put in one hour’s work; still you made them equal to us who bore the burden of the day and the burning heat!’ 13But in reply to one of them he said, ‘Fellow, I do you no wrong. You agreed with me for a denarius, did you not? 14Take what is yours and go. I want to give to this last one the same as to you. 15Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with my own things? Or is your eye wicked because I am good?’ 16In this way the last ones will be first, and the first ones last.”

(1-16) 1“For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire workers for his vineyard. 2He agreed to pay them a denarius for the day and sent them into his vineyard. 3“About nine in the morning he went out and saw others standing in the marketplace doing nothing. 4He told them, ‘You also go and work in my vineyard, and I will pay you whatever is right.’ 5So they went. 6About five in the afternoon he went out and found still others standing around. He asked them, ‘Why have you been standing here all day long doing nothing?’ 7“‘Because no one has hired us,’ they answered. 8“When evening came, the owner of the vineyard said to his foreman, ‘Call the workers and pay them their wages, beginning with the last ones hired and going on to the first.’ 9“The workers who were hired about five in the afternoon came and each received a denarius. 10So when those came who were hired first, they expected to receive more. But each one of them also received a denarius. 11When they received it, they began to grumble against the landowner. 12‘These who were hired last worked only one hour,’ they said, ‘and you have made them equal to us who have borne the burden of the work and the heat of the day.’ 13“But he answered one of them, ‘I am not being unfair to you, friend. Didn’t you agree to work for a denarius? 14Take your pay and go. I want to give the one who was hired last the same as I gave you. 15Don’t I have the right to do what I want with my own money? Or are you envious because I am generous?’ 16“So the last will be first, and the first will be last.”
