Xchg : Death-as inheritance from Adam

¹⁷But as for the tree of the knowledge of good and bad you must not eat from it, for in the day you eat from it you will positively die.”

¹⁷but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

¹⁷Pero en cuanto al árbol del conocimiento de lo bueno y lo malo, no debes comer de él, porque en el día que comas de él, positivamente morirás”.

(1-19) ¹Now the serpent proved to be the most cautious of all the wild beasts of the field that Jehovah God had made. So it began to say to the woman: “Is it really so that God said YOU must not eat from every tree of the garden?” ²At this the woman said to the serpent: “Of the fruit of the trees of the garden we may eat. ³But as for [eating] of the fruit of the tree that is in the middle of the garden, God has said, ‘YOU must not eat from it, no, YOU must not touch it that YOU do not die.’” ⁴At this the serpent said to the woman: “YOU positively will not die. ⁵For God knows that in the very day of YOUR eating from it YOUR eyes are bound to be opened and YOU are bound to be like God, KNOWING good and bad.”

⁶Consequently the woman saw that the tree was good for food and that it was something to be longed for to the eyes, yes, the tree was desirable to look upon. So she began taking of its fruit and eating it. Afterward she gave some also to her husband when with her and he began eating it. ⁷Then the eyes of both of them became opened and they began to realize that they were naked. Hence they sewed fig leaves together and made loin coverings for themselves.

⁸Later they heard the voice of Jehovah God walking in the garden about the breezy part of the day, and the man and his wife went into hiding from the face of Jehovah God in between the trees of the garden. ⁹And Jehovah God kept calling to the man and saying to him: “Where are you?” ¹⁰Finally he said: “Your voice I heard in the garden, but I was afraid because I was naked and so I hid myself.” ¹¹At that he said: “Who told you that you were naked? From the tree from which I commanded you not to eat have you eaten?” ¹²And the man went on to say: “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me [fruit] from the tree and so I ate.” ¹³With that Jehovah God said to the woman: “What is this you have done?” To this the woman replied: “The serpent—it deceived me and so I ate.”

¹⁴And Jehovah God proceeded to say to the serpent: “Because you have done this thing, you are the cursed one out of all the domestic animals and out of all the wild beasts of the field. Upon your belly you will go and dust is what you will eat all the days of your life. ¹⁵And I shall put enmity between you and the woman and between your seed and her seed. He will bruise you in the head and you will bruise him in the heel.”

¹⁶To the woman he said: “I shall greatly increase the pain of your pregnancy; in birth pangs you will bring forth children, and your craving will be for your husband, and he will dominate you.”

¹⁷And to Adam he said: “Because you listened to your wife’s voice and took to eating from the tree concerning which I gave you this command, ‘You must not eat from it,’ cursed is the ground on your account. In pain you will eat its produce all the days of your life. ¹⁸And thorns and thistles it will grow for you, and you must eat the vegetation of the field. ¹⁹In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return.”

(1-19) ¹Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’?” ²The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, ³but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’” ⁴“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. ⁵“For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” ⁶When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it. ⁷Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. ⁸Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. ⁹But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” ¹⁰He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.” ¹¹And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?” ¹²The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” ¹³Then the LORD God said to the woman, “What is this you have done?” ¹⁴So the LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, ¹⁵And I will put enmity
   between you and the woman,
   and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
   and you will strike his heel.” ¹⁶To the woman he said, ¹⁷To Adam he said, “Because you listened to your wife and ate fruit from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ ¹⁸It will produce thorns and thistles for you,
   and you will eat the plants of the field.
¹⁹By the sweat of your brow
   you will eat your food
until you return to the ground,
   since from it you were taken;
for dust you are
   and to dust you will return.”

(1-19) ¹Ahora bien, la serpiente resultó ser la más cautelosa de todas las bestias salvajes del campo que Jehová Dios había hecho. De modo que empezó a decir a la mujer: “¿Es realmente el caso que Dios ha dicho que ustedes no deben comer de todo árbol del jardín?”. ²Ante esto, la mujer dijo a la serpiente: “Del fruto de los árboles del jardín podemos comer. ³Pero en cuanto a [comer] del fruto del árbol que está en medio del jardín, Dios ha dicho: ‘No deben comer de él, no, no deben tocarlo para que no mueran’”. ⁴Ante esto, la serpiente dijo a la mujer: “Positivamente no morirán. ⁵Porque Dios sabe que en el mismo día que coman de él tendrán que abrírseles los ojos y tendrán que ser como Dios, conociendo lo bueno y lo malo”.

⁶Por consiguiente, la mujer vio que el árbol era bueno para alimento, y que a los ojos era algo que anhelar, sí, el árbol era deseable para contemplarlo. De modo que empezó a tomar de su fruto y a comerlo. Después dio de este también a su esposo cuando [él estuvo] con ella, y él empezó a comerlo. ⁷Entonces se les abrieron los ojos a ambos, y empezaron a darse cuenta de que estaban desnudos. Por lo tanto cosieron hojas de higuera y se hicieron coberturas para los lomos.

⁸Más tarde oyeron la voz de Jehová Dios que andaba en el jardín hacia la parte airosa del día, y el hombre y su esposa procedieron a esconderse del rostro de Jehová Dios entre los árboles del jardín. ⁹Y Jehová Dios siguió llamando al hombre y diciéndole: “¿Dónde estás?”. ¹⁰Por fin él dijo: “Oí tu voz en el jardín, pero tuve miedo porque estaba desnudo, y por eso me escondí”. ¹¹A lo que dijo él: “¿Quién te informó que estabas desnudo? ¿Del árbol del que te mandé que no comieras has comido?”. ¹²Y pasó el hombre a decir: “La mujer que me diste para que estuviera conmigo, ella me dio [fruto] del árbol y así es que comí”. ¹³Ante eso, Jehová Dios dijo a la mujer: “¿Qué es esto que has hecho?”. A lo cual respondió la mujer: “La serpiente... ella me engañó, y así es que comí”.

¹⁴Y Jehová Dios procedió a decir a la serpiente: “Porque has hecho esta cosa, tú eres la maldita de entre todos los animales domésticos y de entre todas las bestias salvajes del campo. Sobre tu vientre irás, y polvo es lo que comerás todos los días de tu vida. ¹⁵Y pondré enemistad entre ti y la mujer, y entre tu descendencia y la descendencia de ella. Él te magullará en la cabeza y tú le magullarás en el talón”.

¹⁶A la mujer dijo: “Aumentaré en gran manera el dolor de tu preñez; con dolores de parto darás a luz hijos, y tu deseo vehemente será por tu esposo, y él te dominará”.

¹⁷Y a Adán dijo: “Porque escuchaste la voz de tu esposa y te pusiste a comer del árbol respecto del cual te di este mandato: ‘No debes comer de él’, maldito está el suelo por tu causa. Con dolor comerás su producto todos los días de tu vida. ¹⁸Y espinos y cardos hará crecer para ti, y tienes que comer la vegetación del campo. ¹⁹Con el sudor de tu rostro comerás pan hasta que vuelvas al suelo, porque de él fuiste tomado. Porque polvo eres y a polvo volverás”.

(3-5) ³And Adam lived on for a hundred and thirty years. Then he became father to a son in his likeness, in his image, and called his name Seth. ⁴And the days of Adam after his fathering Seth came to be eight hundred years. Meanwhile he became father to sons and daughters. ⁵So all the days of Adam that he lived amounted to nine hundred and thirty years and he died.

(3-5) ³When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. ⁴After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. ⁵Altogether, Adam lived a total of 930 years, and then he died.

(3-5) ³Y Adán siguió viviendo ciento treinta años. Entonces llegó a ser padre de un hijo a su semejanza, a su imagen, y lo llamó por nombre Set. ⁴Y los días de Adán después de engendrar a Set llegaron a ser ochocientos años. Entretanto, llegó a ser padre de hijos e hijas. ⁵De modo que todos los días de Adán que él vivió ascendieron a novecientos treinta años, y murió.

¹²That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned—.

¹²Por eso, así como por medio de un solo hombre el pecado entró en el mundo, y la muerte mediante el pecado, y así la muerte se extendió a todos los hombres porque todos habían pecado...

¹⁷For if by the trespass of the one [man] death ruled as king through that one, much more will those who receive the abundance of the undeserved kindness and of the free gift of righteousness rule as kings in life through the one [person], Jesus Christ.

¹⁷For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!

¹⁷Porque si por la ofensa del solo [hombre] la muerte reinó mediante aquel solo, mucho más los que reciben la abundancia de la bondad inmerecida y de la dádiva gratuita de la justicia reinarán en vida mediante la sola [persona], Jesucristo.

¹⁹For just as through the disobedience of the one man many were constituted sinners, likewise also through the obedience of the one [person] many will be constituted righteous.

¹⁹For just as through the disobedience of the one man the many were made sinners, so also through the obedience of the one man the many will be made righteous.

¹⁹Porque así como mediante la desobediencia del solo hombre muchos fueron constituidos pecadores, así mismo, también, mediante la obediencia de la sola [persona] muchos serán constituidos justos.
