^     Ecclesiastes 9 Ecclesiastes 9 Eclesiastés 9
5For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 5For the living know that they will die,
   but the dead know nothing;
they have no further reward,
   and even their name is forgotten.
^     Psalms 146 Psalms 146 Salmos 146
4His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground;
In that day his thoughts do perish.
4When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
   on that very day their plans come to nothing.
4Sale su espíritu, él vuelve a su suelo;
^     John 11 John 11 Juan 11
(11-14) 11He said these things, and after this he said to them: “Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.” 12Therefore the disciples said to him: “Lord, if he has gone to rest, he will get well.” 13Jesus had spoken, however, about his death. But they imagined he was speaking about taking rest in sleep. 14At that time, therefore, Jesus said to them outspokenly: “Lazarus has died, (11-14) 11After he had said this, he went on to tell them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.” 12His disciples replied, “Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.” 13Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.

3Do look [upon me]; answer me, O Jehovah my God.
Do make my eyes shine, that I may not fall asleep in death,
3Look on me and answer, LORD my God.
   Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
^     Job 14 Job 14 Job 14
10But an able-bodied man dies and lies vanquished;
And an earthling man expires, and where is he?
10But a man dies and is laid low;
   he breathes his last and is no more.
10Pero el hombre físicamente capacitado muere y yace vencido;
21His sons get honored, but he does not know [it];
And they become insignificant, but he does not consider them.
21If their children are honored, they do not know it;
   if their offspring are brought low, they do not see it.
21Sus hijos reciben honra, pero él no [lo] sabe;
^     Psalms 49 Psalms 49 Salmos 49
10For he sees that even the wise ones die,
Together the stupid one and the unreasoning one perish,
And they must leave to others their means of maintenance.
10For all can see that the wise die,
   that the foolish and the senseless also perish,
   leaving their wealth to others.
(17-19) 17For at his death he cannot take along anything at all;
His glory will not go down along with him himself.

18For during his lifetime he kept blessing his own soul;
(And people will laud you because you do well for yourself)

19[His soul] finally comes only as far as the generation of his forefathers.
Nevermore will they see the light.

(17-19) 17for they will take nothing with them when they die,
   their splendor will not descend with them.
18Though while they live they count themselves blessed—
   and people praise you when you prosper—
19they will join those who have gone before them,
   who will never again see the light of life.
(17-19) 17pues al morir no puede llevarse absolutamente nada;

(y la gente te elogiará porque te haces el bien a ti mismo);
