5These twelve Jesus sent forth, giving them these orders: “Do not go off into the road of the nations, and do not enter into a Samaritan city;
6but, instead, go continually to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
7As YOU go, preach, saying, ‘The kingdom of the heavens has drawn near.’
8Cure sick people, raise up dead persons, make lepers clean, expel demons. YOU received free, give free.
9Do not procure gold or silver or copper for YOUR girdle purses,
10or a food pouch for the trip, or two undergarments, or sandals or a staff; for the worker deserves his food.
11“Into whatever city or village YOU enter, search out who in it is deserving, and stay there until YOU leave.
12When YOU are entering into the house, greet the household;
13and if the house is deserving, let the peace YOU wish it come upon it; but if it is not deserving, let the peace from YOU return upon YOU.
14Wherever anyone does not take YOU in or listen to YOUR words, on going out of that house or that city shake the dust off YOUR feet.
15Truly I say to YOU, It will be more endurable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah on Judgment Day than for that city.
16“Look! I am sending YOU forth as sheep amidst wolves; therefore prove yourselves cautious as serpents and yet innocent as doves.
17Be on YOUR guard against men; for they will deliver YOU up to local courts, and they will scourge YOU in their synagogues.
18Why, YOU will be haled before governors and kings for my sake, for a witness to them and the nations.
19However, when they deliver YOU up, do not become anxious about how or what YOU are to speak; for what YOU are to speak will be given YOU in that hour;
20for the ones speaking are not just YOU, but it is the spirit of YOUR Father that speaks by YOU.
21Further, brother will deliver up brother to death, and a father his child, and children will rise up against parents and will have them put to death.
22And YOU will be objects of hatred by all people on account of my name; but he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved.
23When they persecute YOU in one city, flee to another; for truly I say to YOU, YOU will by no means complete the circuit of the cities of Israel until the Son of man arrives.

5These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans.
6Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel.
7As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’
8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
9“Do not get any gold or silver or copper to take with you in your belts—
10no bag for the journey or extra shirt or sandals or a staff, for the worker is worth his keep.
11Whatever town or village you enter, search there for some worthy person and stay at their house until you leave.
12As you enter the home, give it your greeting.
13If the home is deserving, let your peace rest on it; if it is not, let your peace return to you.
14If anyone will not welcome you or listen to your words, leave that home or town and shake the dust off your feet.
15Truly I tell you, it will be more bearable for Sodom and Gomorrah on the day of judgment than for that town.
16“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.
17Be on your guard; you will be handed over to the local councils and be flogged in the synagogues.
18On my account you will be brought before governors and kings as witnesses to them and to the Gentiles.
19But when they arrest you, do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say,
20for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.
21“Brother will betray brother to death, and a father his child; children will rebel against their parents and have them put to death.
22You will be hated by everyone because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved.
23When you are persecuted in one place, flee to another. Truly I tell you, you will not finish going through the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes.

5A estos doce Jesús los envió, dándoles estas órdenes: “No se vayan por el camino de las naciones, y no entren en ciudad samaritana;
6sino, más bien, vayan continuamente a las ovejas perdidas de la casa de Israel.
7Al ir, prediquen, diciendo: ‘El reino de los cielos se ha acercado’.
8Curen enfermos, levanten muertos, limpien leprosos, expulsen demonios. Recibieron gratis; den gratis.
9No consigan oro, ni plata, ni cobre para las bolsas de sus cintos,
10ni alforja para el viaje, ni dos prendas de vestir interiores, ni sandalias, ni bastón; porque el obrero merece su alimento.
11”En cualquier ciudad o aldea que entren, busquen hasta descubrir quién en ella es merecedor, y quédense allí hasta que salgan.
12Al entrar en la casa, salúdenla;
13y si la casa lo merece, venga sobre ella la paz que le desean; pero si no lo merece, vuelva sobre ustedes la paz de ustedes.
14Dondequiera que alguien no los reciba ni escuche sus palabras, al salir de aquella casa o de aquella ciudad, sacúdanse el polvo de los pies.
15En verdad les digo: En el Día del Juicio le será más soportable a la tierra de Sodoma y Gomorra que a aquella ciudad.
16”¡Miren! Los estoy enviando como ovejas en medio de lobos; por lo tanto, demuestren ser cautelosos como serpientes, y, sin embargo, inocentes como palomas.
17Guárdense de los hombres; porque los entregarán a los tribunales locales, y los azotarán en sus sinagogas.
18¡Si hasta los llevarán ante gobernadores y reyes por mi causa, para un testimonio a ellos y a las naciones!
19Sin embargo, cuando los entreguen, no se inquieten acerca de cómo o qué han de hablar; porque en aquella hora se les dará lo que han de hablar;
20porque los que hablan no son únicamente ustedes, sino que el espíritu de su Padre habla por ustedes.
21Además, el hermano entregará a la muerte al hermano, y el padre a su hijo, y los hijos se levantarán contra los padres y los harán morir.
22Y ustedes serán objeto de odio de parte de toda la gente por motivo de mi nombre; mas el que haya aguantado hasta el fin es el que será salvo.
23Cuando los persigan en una ciudad, huyan a otra; porque en verdad les digo: De ninguna manera completarán el circuito de las ciudades de Israel hasta que llegue el Hijo del hombre.

8But it happened that the father of Publius was lying down distressed with fever and dysentery, and Paul went in to him and prayed, laid his hands upon him and healed him.
9After this occurred, the rest of the people on the island who had sicknesses also began to come to him and be cured.
