¹³Now when they beheld the outspokenness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were men unlettered and ordinary, they got to wondering. And they began to recognize about them that they used to be with Jesus;

¹³When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

¹³Ahora bien, al contemplar la franqueza de Pedro y de Juan, y al percibir que eran hombres iletrados y del vulgo, se admiraban. Y empezaron a reconocer, acerca de ellos, que solían estar con Jesús;

(6-11) ⁶Neither have we been seeking glory from men, no, either from YOU or from others, though we could be an expensive burden as apostles of Christ. ⁷To the contrary, we became gentle in the midst of YOU, as when a nursing mother cherishes her own children. ⁸So, having a tender affection for YOU, we were well pleased to impart to YOU, not only the good news of God, but also our own souls, because YOU became beloved to us.

⁹Certainly YOU bear in mind, brothers, our labor and toil. It was with working night and day, so as not to put an expensive burden upon any one of YOU, that we preached the good news of God to YOU. ¹⁰YOU are witnesses, God is also, how loyal and righteous and unblamable we proved to be to YOU believers. ¹¹In harmony with that YOU well know how, as a father does his children, we kept exhorting each one of YOU, and consoling and bearing witness to YOU,

(6-11) ⁶We were not looking for praise from people, not from you or anyone else, even though as apostles of Christ we could have asserted our authority. ⁷Instead, we were like young children among you. ⁸so we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well. ⁹Surely you remember, brothers and sisters, our toil and hardship; we worked night and day in order not to be a burden to anyone while we preached the gospel of God to you. ¹⁰You are witnesses, and so is God, of how holy, righteous and blameless we were among you who believed. ¹¹For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children,

(6-11) ⁶Tampoco hemos estado buscando la gloria de los hombres, no, ni de ustedes ni de otros, aunque pudiéramos ser una carga costosa como apóstoles de Cristo. ⁷Al contrario, nos hicimos amables en medio de ustedes, como cuando una madre que cría acaricia a sus propios hijos. ⁸Así, teniéndoles tierno cariño, nos fue de mucho agrado impartirles, no solo las buenas nuevas de Dios, sino también nuestras propias almas, porque ustedes llegaron a sernos amados.

⁹Ciertamente ustedes recuerdan, hermanos, nuestra labor y afán. (18-22) ¹⁸Walking alongside the sea of Galilee he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter and Andrew his brother, letting down a fishing net into the sea, for they were fishers. ¹⁹And he said to them: “Come after me, and I will make YOU fishers of men.” ²⁰At once abandoning the nets, they followed him. ²¹Going on also from there he saw two others [who were] brothers, James [the son] of Zebedee and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets, and he called them. ²²At once leaving the boat and their father, they followed him.

(18-22) ¹⁸As Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and his brother Andrew. They were casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. ¹⁹“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” ²⁰At once they left their nets and followed him. ²¹Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, ²²and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him.

(18-22) ¹⁸Andando a lo largo del mar de Galilea, vio a dos hermanos: Simón, a quien llaman Pedro, y Andrés su hermano, que bajaban una red de pescar en el mar, pues eran pescadores. ¹⁹Y les dijo: “Vengan en pos de mí, y los haré pescadores de hombres”. ²⁰Abandonando en seguida las redes, le siguieron. ²¹Al seguir adelante de allí también, vio a otros dos [que eran] hermanos: Santiago [hijo] de Zebedeo y Juan su hermano, en la barca con Zebedeo su padre, remendando sus redes, y los llamó. ²²Ellos, dejando en seguida la barca y a su padre, le siguieron.

⁹Next, while passing along from there, Jesus caught sight of a man named Matthew seated at the tax office, and he said to him: “Be my follower.” Thereupon he did rise up and follow him.

⁹As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

⁹Luego, al ir pasando de allí, Jesús alcanzó a ver a un hombre, cuyo nombre era Mateo, sentado en la oficina de los impuestos, y le dijo: “Sé mi seguidor”. En seguida este se levantó y le siguió.

³“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was thoroughly trained in the law of our ancestors. I was just as zealous for God as any of you are today.
