⁴When Moses got to hear it he at once fell upon his face. ⁵Then he spoke to Korah and to his entire assembly, saying: “In the morning Jehovah will make known who belongs to him and who is holy and who must come near to him, and whoever he may choose will come near to him. ⁶Do this: Take fire holders for yourselves, Korah and his entire assembly, ⁷and put fire in them and place incense upon them before Jehovah tomorrow, and it must occur that the man whom Jehovah will choose, he is the holy one. That is enough of YOU, YOU sons of Levi!”

⁸And Moses went on to say to Korah: “Listen, please, YOU sons of Levi. ⁹Is it such a little thing for YOU men that the God of Israel has separated YOU men from the assembly of Israel to present YOU to himself to carry on the service of Jehovah’s tabernacle and to stand before the assembly to minister to them, ¹⁰and that he should bring you and all your brothers the sons of Levi with you near? So must YOU men also try to secure the priesthood? ¹¹For that reason you and all your assembly who are gathering together are against Jehovah. As for Aaron, what is he that YOU men should murmur against him?”

¹²Later Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram the sons of Eliab, but they said: “We are not going to come up! ¹³Is it so little a thing that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to put us to death in the wilderness, that you should also try to play the prince over us to the limit? ¹⁴As it is, you have not brought us into any land flowing with milk and honey, that you may give us an inheritance of field and vineyard. Is it the eyes of those men that you want to bore out? We are not going to come up!”

¹⁵At this Moses became very angry and said to Jehovah: “Do not turn to look at their grain offering. Not one male ass have I taken away from them, nor have I harmed one of them.”

¹⁶Then Moses said to Korah: “You and all your assembly, be present before Jehovah, you and they and Aaron, tomorrow. ¹⁷And take each one his fire holder, and YOU men must put incense upon them and present each one his fire holder before Jehovah, two hundred and fifty fire holders, and you and Aaron each his fire holder.” ¹⁸So they took each one his fire holder and put fire upon them and placed incense upon them and stood at the entrance of the tent of meeting together with Moses and Aaron. ¹⁹When Korah got all the assembly together against them at the entrance of the tent of meeting, then Jehovah’s glory appeared to all the assembly.

²⁰Jehovah now spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying: ²¹“Separate yourselves from the midst of this assembly, that I may exterminate them in an instant.” ²²At this they fell upon their faces and said: “O God, the God of the spirits of every sort of flesh, will just one man sin and you become indignant against the entire assembly?”

²³In turn Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying: ²⁴“Speak to the assembly, saying, ‘Get away from around the tabernacles of Korah, Dathan and Abiram!’”

²⁵After that Moses got up and went to Dathan and Abiram, and the older men of Israel went with him. ²⁶Then he spoke to the assembly, saying: “Turn aside, please, from before the tents of these wicked men and do not touch anything that belongs to them, that YOU may not be swept away in all their sin.” ²⁷Immediately they got away from before the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, from every side, and Dathan and Abiram came out, taking their stand at the entrance of their tents, together with their wives, and their sons and their little ones.

²⁸Then Moses said: “By this YOU will know that Jehovah has sent me to do all these deeds, that it is not of my own heart: ²⁹If it is according to the death of all mankind that these people will die and with the punishment of all mankind that punishment will be brought upon them, then it is not Jehovah that has sent me. ³⁰But if it is something created that Jehovah will create, and the ground has to open its mouth and swallow up them and everything that belongs to them and they have to go down alive into Sheol, YOU will then know for certain that these men have treated Jehovah disrespectfully.”

³¹And it came about that as soon as he had finished speaking all these words, the ground that was under them began to be split apart. ³²And the earth proceeded to open its mouth and to swallow up them and their households and all humankind that belonged to Korah and all the goods. ³³So down they went, and all who belonged to them, alive into Sheol, and the earth went covering them over, so that they perished from the midst of the congregation. ³⁴And all the Israelites who were round about them fled at the screaming of them, for they began to say: “We are afraid that the earth may swallow us up!” ³⁵And a fire came out from Jehovah and proceeded to consume the two hundred and fifty men offering the incense.

³⁶Jehovah now spoke to Moses, saying: ³⁷“Say to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest that he should take up the fire holders from within the conflagration, ‘And you scatter the fire over there; for they are holy, ³⁸even the fire holders of these men who sinned against their own souls. And they must make them into thin metal plates as an overlaying for the altar, because they presented them before Jehovah, so that they became holy; and they should serve as a sign to the sons of Israel.’” ³⁹Accordingly Eleazar the priest took the copper fire holders, which those who had been burned up had presented, and they proceeded to beat them out into an overlaying for the altar, ⁴⁰as a memorial for the sons of Israel, to the end that no strange man who is not of the offspring of Aaron should come near to make incense smoke before Jehovah, and no one might become like Korah and his assembly, just as Jehovah had spoken to him by means of Moses.

⁴¹And directly the next day the whole assembly of the sons of Israel began to murmur against Moses and Aaron, saying: “YOU men, YOU have put Jehovah’s people to death.” ⁴²And it came about that when the assembly had congregated themselves together against Moses and Aaron, they then turned toward the tent of meeting; and, look! the cloud covered it, and Jehovah’s glory began to appear.

⁴³And Moses and Aaron proceeded to come before the tent of meeting. ⁴⁴Then Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying: ⁴⁵“YOU men, rise up from the midst of this assembly, that I may exterminate them in an instant.” At this they fell upon their faces. ⁴⁶After that Moses said to Aaron: “Take the fire holder and put fire from upon the altar in it and put on incense and go to the assembly in a hurry and make atonement for them, because the indignation has gone out from the face of Jehovah. The plague has started!” ⁴⁷Aaron at once took it, just as Moses had spoken, and went running into the midst of the congregation; and, look! the plague had started among the people. So he put the incense on and began making atonement for the people. ⁴⁸And he kept standing between the dead and the living. Eventually the scourge was stopped. ⁴⁹And those dead from the scourge amounted to fourteen thousand seven hundred, aside from those dead on account of Korah.

⁴Cuando Moisés llegó a oírlo, en seguida cayó sobre su rostro. ⁵Entonces habló a Coré y a su entera asamblea, y dijo: “Por la mañana Jehová dará a conocer quién le pertenece a él y quién es santo y quién tiene que acercársele, y quienquiera a quien él escoja se acercará a él. ⁶Hagan esto: Tomen para ustedes braserillos, Coré y toda su asamblea, ⁷y pongan fuego en ellos y coloquen incienso sobre ellos delante de Jehová mañana, y tiene que suceder que el hombre a quien Jehová escoja, él es el santo. ¡Ya basta de ustedes, hijos de Leví!”.

⁸Y Moisés pasó a decir a Coré: “Escuchen, por favor, ustedes, los hijos de Leví. ⁹¿Les es cosa tan pequeña el que el Dios de Israel los haya separado de la asamblea de Israel para presentarlos a sí para efectuar el servicio del tabernáculo de Jehová y para estar de pie delante de la asamblea para ministrarles, ¹⁰y el que a ti y a todos tus hermanos contigo, los hijos de Leví, los haya hecho acercarse? Así es que ¿también tienen que tratar de conseguir el sacerdocio? ¹¹Por esa razón tú y toda tu asamblea que van reuniéndose están contra Jehová. En cuanto a Aarón, ¿qué es para que murmuren contra él?”.

¹²Más tarde Moisés envió a llamar a Datán y Abiram, hijos de Eliab, pero ellos dijeron: “¡No vamos a subir! ¹³¿Es cosa tan pequeña el que nos hayas hecho subir de una tierra que mana leche y miel para hacernos morir en el desierto, que también procuras hacerte príncipe sobre nosotros hasta el límite? ¹⁴El caso es que no nos has introducido en una tierra que mane leche y miel, para que nos des una herencia de campo y viña. ¿Será acaso que quieres perforar y sacar los ojos de aquellos hombres? ¡No vamos a subir!”.

¹⁵Ante esto, Moisés se encolerizó mucho y dijo a Jehová: “No te vuelvas para mirar su ofrenda de grano. Ni un asno he tomado yo de ellos, ni he hecho daño a ninguno de ellos”.

¹⁶Entonces Moisés dijo a Coré: “Tú y toda tu asamblea, estén presentes delante de Jehová, tú y ellos y Aarón, mañana. ¹⁷Y tome cada uno su braserillo, y ustedes tienen que poner incienso sobre ellos y presentar cada cual su braserillo delante de Jehová, doscientos cincuenta braserillos, y tú y Aarón cada uno su braserillo”. ¹⁸De modo que tomaron cada cual su braserillo y pusieron fuego sobre ellos y colocaron incienso sobre ellos y se quedaron parados a la entrada de la tienda de reunión, junto con Moisés y Aarón. ¹⁹Cuando Coré tenía a toda la asamblea reunida contra ellos a la entrada de la tienda de reunión, entonces la gloria de Jehová se apareció a toda la asamblea.

²⁰Jehová ahora habló a Moisés y Aarón, y dijo: ²¹“Sepárense de en medio de esta asamblea, para que extermine a estos en un instante”. ²²Ante esto, ellos cayeron sobre sus rostros y dijeron: “Oh Dios, el Dios de los espíritus de toda clase de carne, ¿pecará un solo hombre y te indignarás contra la entera asamblea?”.

²³A su vez, Jehová habló a Moisés, ydijo: ²⁴“Habla a la asamblea, y di: ‘¡Retírense de alrededor de los tabernáculos de Coré, Datán y Abiram!’”.

²⁵Después Moisés se levantó y fue a Datán y Abiram, y los ancianos de Israel fueron con él. ²⁶Entonces habló a la asamblea, y dijo: “Apártense, por favor, de delante de las tiendas de estos hombres inicuos, y no toquen cosa alguna que pertenezca a ellos, para que no sean barridos en todo el pecado de ellos”. ²⁷Inmediatamente ellos se retiraron de delante del tabernáculo de Coré, Datán y Abiram, por todos lados, y Datán y Abiram salieron, y se plantaron a la entrada de sus tiendas, junto con sus esposas, y sus hijos y sus pequeñuelos.

²⁸Entonces Moisés dijo: “En esto sabrán que Jehová me ha enviado a hacer todas estas obras, que no es de mi propio corazón: ²⁹Si fuera según la muerte de toda la humanidad como murieran estas personas, y con el castigo de toda la humanidad como se les impusiera castigo, entonces no es Jehová quien me ha enviado. ³⁰Pero si es algo creado que Jehová haya de crear, y el suelo tiene que abrir su boca y tragárselos, y todo cuanto les pertenece, y ellos tienen que bajar vivos al Seol, entonces de cierto sabrán ustedes que estos hombres han tratado a Jehová irrespetuosamente”.

³¹Y aconteció que, tan pronto como él hubo acabado de hablar todas estas palabras, el suelo que estaba debajo de ellos empezó a partirse. ³²Y la tierra procedió a abrir su boca y a tragárselos a ellos y a sus casas y a todo el género humano que pertenecía a Coré, y todos los bienes. ³³Así que abajo fueron ellos, y todos los que les pertenecían, vivos al Seol, y la tierra fue cubriéndolos, de modo que perecieron de en medio de la congregación. ³⁴Y todos los israelitas que estaban en su derredor huyeron al grito de ellos, porqueempezaron a decir: “¡Tenemos miedo de que la tierra nos trague a nosotros!”. ³⁵Y un fuego salió de Jehová y procedió a consumir a los doscientos cincuenta hombres que ofrecían el incienso.

³⁶Jehová habló ahora a Moisés, y dijo: ³⁷“Di a Eleazar hijo de Aarón el sacerdote que recoja los braserillos de dentro del incendio: ‘Y esparce allá el fuego; porque son santos, ³⁸sí, los braserillos de estos hombres que pecaron contra sus propias almas. Y tienen que hacer de ellos láminas delgadas como un revestimiento para el altar, porque los presentaron delante de Jehová, de modo que quedaron santificados; y deben servir de señal a los hijos de Israel’”. ³⁹Por consiguiente, Eleazar el sacerdote tomó los braserillos de cobre, que habían presentado los que habían sido quemados, y se pusieron a batirlos para hacer de ellos un revestimiento para el altar, ⁴⁰como memoria para los hijos de Israel, a fin de que ningún hombre extraño que no sea de la prole de Aarón se acerque para hacer humear incienso delante de Jehová, y nadie llegue a ser como Coré y su asamblea, tal como le había hablado Jehová por medio de Moisés.

⁴¹Y precisamente al día siguiente la entera asamblea de los hijos de Israel sepuso a murmurar contra Moisés y Aarón, diciendo: “Ustedes han dado muerte al pueblo de Jehová”. ⁴²Y aconteció que cuando la asamblea se había congregado contra Moisés y Aarón, entonces se volvieron hacia la tienda de reunión; y, ¡mire!, la nube la cubrió, y la gloria de Jehová empezó a aparecer.

⁴³Y Moisés y Aarón procedieron a venir delante de la tienda de reunión. ⁴⁴Entonces Jehová habló a Moisés, y dijo: ⁴⁵“Ustedes, levántense de en medio de esta asamblea, para que extermine a estos en un instante”. Ante esto, ellos cayeron sobre sus rostros. ⁴⁶Después Moisés dijo a Aarón: “Toma el braserillo y pon en él fuego de sobre el altar, y pon incienso encima, y ve de prisa a la asamblea y haz expiación por ellos, porque la indignación ha salido del rostro de Jehová. ¡Ha comenzado la plaga!”. ⁴⁷Aarón lo tomó en seguida, tal como había hablado Moisés, y entró corriendo en medio de la congregación; y, ¡mire!, la plaga había comenzado entre el pueblo. Así que él puso el incienso y empezó a hacer expiación por el pueblo. ⁴⁸Y siguió parado entre los muertos y los vivos. Por fin se detuvo el azote. ⁴⁹Y los muertos del azote ascendieron a catorce mil setecientos, aparte de los muertos a causa de Coré.

⁶So Moses spoke to the sons of Israel, and all their chieftains went giving him a rod for each chieftain, a rod for each chieftain, by the house of their fathers, twelve rods; and Aaron’s rod was in among their rods. ⁷Then Moses deposited the rods before Jehovah in the tent of the Testimony.

⁸And it came about the next day that when Moses went into the tent of the Testimony, look! Aaron’s rod for the house of Levi had budded, and it was bringing forth buds and blossoming flowers and was bearing ripe almonds. ⁹Moses then brought out all the rods from before Jehovah to all the sons of Israel, and they went looking and taking each man his own rod.

¹⁰Subsequently Jehovah said to Moses: “Put Aaron’s rod back before the Testimony as something to be kept for a sign to the sons of rebelliousness, that their murmurings may cease from against me, that they may not die.” ¹¹At once Moses did just as Jehovah had commanded him. He did just so.

⁶De modo que Moisés habló a los hijos de Israel, y todos sus principales procedieron a darle una vara por cada principal, una vara por cada principal, por la casa de sus padres, doce varas; y la vara de Aarón estaba en medio de las varas de ellos. ⁷Entonces Moisés depositó las varas delante de Jehová en la tienda del Testimonio.

⁸Y aconteció que al día siguiente, cuando Moisés entró en la tienda del Testimonio, ¡mire!, la vara de Aarón para la casa de Leví había brotado, y estaba echando botones y arrojando flores y estaba produciendo almendras maduras. ⁹Moisés entonces sacó todas las varas de delante de Jehová a todos los hijos de Israel, y se pusieron a mirar y a tomar cada hombre su propia vara.

¹⁰Posteriormente, Jehová dijo a Moisés: “Vuelve a poner la vara de Aarón delante del Testimonio como algo que ha de guardarse como señal para los hijos de la rebeldía, a fin de que cesen sus murmuraciones de en contra de mí, para que no mueran”. ¹¹En seguida Moisés hizo tal como Jehová le había mandado. Hizo precisamente así.
